How to organise your internal sabbatical
When?
Choose a month and a time slot. First decide which month, and which 1–2 week slot during the month, you would prefer to take an internal sabbatical. Try and choose a slot as free as possible from other duties such as teaching and meetings. Check out our internal google calendar to see if there already are other sabbatees on the go. Try to avoid the same weeks as other sabbatees.
Where?
Choose a division and a group. Next, make contact with the division head (and optionally the leader of your preferred research group) to inform them of your intentions and to organise the logistics of your sabbatical. One requirement for an internal sabbatical is the availability of a place to sit. This may be a spare desk somewhere within the division, the office of a staff member who is currently on leave or abroad or a specially reserved room for the purposes of the internal sabbatical program. The choice of the room should be arranged in advance. With enough planning, two staff members could even arrange to swap rooms with each other during two overlapping sabbaticals!
Make it known
Record your sabbatical choices in the sabbatical form below. Inger Ekström will then add your sabbatical to the internal calendars, and Marie Dacke and Eric Warrant will be informed,
Get going
Turn up for your sabbatical at the allotted time and place. Take advantage of the relative peace to think big thoughts, discuss interesting ideas with new colleagues and become inspired!
Book an interview
When the sabbatical has come to an end, contact Anders Örtegren or Inger Ekström to do an interview for the Biology blog about your experiences.
